In the latest edition of Virginia Tech news, the softball wins up a win and a tie, the women's lacrosse team opens the season with a win and the wrestling team picks up a pair of wins over the weekend.

Softball picks up a win & a tie in Alabama

The 23rd-ranked Virginia Tech softball team picked up a win by beating Belmont 13-1 in the opener Saturday, then the Hokies finished the second game with Auburn in a 5-5 tie to improve to 3-0-1 on the season. The game with the 20th-ranked tied goes down as a tie after the Hokies took a 9-5 lead in the top of the seventh, but the game then went into a weather delay and was postponed with the game being a tie as the score after six innings 5-5.

Virginia Tech lacrosse opens with win over VCU

The women's lacrosse team is hoping to have a better 2024 season than they did in 2023 and they began the season in the right foot Saturday with a 10-5 win over VCU at home.

Kayla Downey paced the Hokies with three goals and two assists, while Olivia Vergano had three goals and three assists herself. Jocelyn Torres made 11 saves in net for Virginia Tech who picked up nine assists on 10 goals. Wednesday, the Hokies will head to James Madison for a matchup with the Dukes.

Wrestling takes down Duke & George Mason

The Hokies wrestling team held their final two home matches of the season with a 45-0 ACC victory over Duke, then 42-5 over George Mason.

Winning against the Blue Devils was Cooper Flynn (125), Sam Latona (133), Tom Crook (141), Luke Robie (149), Clayton Ulrey (157), Connor Brady (165), Mekhi Lewis (174), Cody Howard (184), Andy Smith (197) and Hunter Catka (285). Against the Patriots, Mac Church (149), TJ Stewart (184), Kylan Montgomery (165), and Jimmy Mullen (285) were notable winners for the Hokies.
