In this edition of Virginia Tech News, Wednesday is National Signing Day, baseball third baseman Carson DeMartini gets some preseason praise, A Hokies football recruit transfers high schools, and more.

Carson DeMartini gets preseason praise

The Virginia Tech baseball team begins the 2024 season on Feb. 16 with a three-game non-conference series at Charlotte against the 49ers. Tuesday, third baseman Carson DeMartini got more preseason praise.

DeMartini is a Preseason All-American for Perfect Game, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, and D1 Baseball.

Virginia Tech 2025 football commit transfers to new high school

According to Mike Roach, a National Recruiting Analyst for 247 Sports, Virginia Tech Class of 2025 football commit Kelden Ryan has transferred to DeSoto High School in Texas from Fort Worth All Saints. DeSoto has won back-to-back Texas State Championships.

Aeneas Peebles ranked Top 100 football players of 2023

Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry made some additions to his defensive line in the transfer portal with the additions of Aeneas Peebles from Duke, Kelvin Gilliam from Oklahoma, and Kemari Copeland of Iowa Western Community College. Peebles was one of the Top 101 college football players according to PFF College.

Peebles was ranked No. 82 by PFF after his 2023 campaign at Duke. He had 44 tackles, 13 solo for the Blue Devils with five sacks and a forced fumble. In his final game at Duke, he had four tackles and a sack in a 17-10 win over Troy in the 76 Birmingham Bowl.

Georgia Amoore earns another award

Virginia Tech women's basketball point guard Georgia Amoore was one of five players who earned Women's National Players of the Week honors from the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. Joining Amoore this week were Caitlin Clark of Iowa, Aaliyah Edwards of Connecticut, Jacy Sheldon of Ohio State, and JuJu Watkins of USC.

In two games last week, Amoore had 20 points and 14 assists in 40 during the Hokies win over Virginia last Thursday, then she followed that up with 21 points and 11 assists in 45 minutes in an overtime win over North Carolina Sunday.

Wednesday is National Signing Day

Today is "National Signing Day'' and while a lot of the top names officially signed back in December, there are still likely going to be some more signings and even flips today. Stay tuned.
