In the latest edition of Virginia Tech News, the latest Associated Press Women's Basketball Top 25 poll was released, a Hokies player earns an ACC award, and a men's basketball recruit reportedly sets up a visit date.

Virginia Tech Women rise in AP Top 25 poll

Following a week where the Virginia Tech women's basketball team won two games, they moved up just one spot in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll to No. 16. It's surprising that they only went up one spot after beating Virginia at home by 13 points, and then they beat North Carolina on the road in overtime on Sunday, 71-60.

That win over the Tar Heels was a big one in terms of the ACC regular season race, but apparently, the voters didn't seem that impressed by the victory.

Elizabeth Kitley named Player of the Week

Center Elizabeth Kitley picked up ACC Player of the Week honors Monday after helping the Hokies collect a pair of wins over the Cavaliers and Tar Heels.

Against Virginia, Kitley had 33 points and 18 rebounds as one of two dominating performances from Virginia Tech players. Point guard Georgia Amoore had 20 points and 14 assists in the win. Against North Carolina, Kitley struggled from the field going 7-for-21 for 15 points, but she finished with 15 rebounds and a block playing 44 of the 45 minutes in the game.

Men's Basketball recruit to make a visit this month

Four-star guard Jordan Lowery will reportedly take an unofficial visit to Virginia Tech on Feb. 19 when the Hokies host Virginia in the second Commonwealth Clash against the Cavaliers. Virginia won the first matchup last month, 65-57, in Charlottesville.

Men's Basketball has quiet week

Speaking of Mike Young's team, they are off this week until they travel to Notre Dame on Saturday night at 5:30. At 13-9, the Hokies are in must-win mode if they are going to get back in the conversation for the NCAA Tournament.
