Women's basketball plays at Florida State
After wins at home over North Carolina State and Miami, the Virginia Tech women's basketball team will play their toughest ACC road game early in the season when the No. 11 Hokies play No. 21 Florida State in Tallahassee.
Virginia Tech has played three true road games this season, winning at Wake Forest and Rutgers and losing at LSU in November in the SEC/ACC Challenge. The Seminoles are a good team that is athletic and will give Georgia Amoore a lot of pressure while trying to contain Elizabeth Kitley on the inside. This is a game where Cayla King and Matilda Ekh are going to need to provide scoring and hit some 3-point shots.
Miami lands transfer quarterback
After missing out on some quarterbacks in the transfer portal, Mario Cristobal found their signal caller when Washington State's Cam Ward committed to the Hurricanes.
Ward passed on declaring for the NFL Draft and instead will head to South Florida to play for Miami. This season in the final season of the PAC-12, the West Columbia, Texas native threw for 3,735 yards, 25 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in a conference known for its high-powered offenses and struggling defenses.
Virginia Tech wrestling beats App State
The Virginia Tech wrestling got back into the win column with a 28-10 non-conference victory over Appalachian State in Blacksburg.
Winners for the Hokies were Cooper Flynn (125), Tom Crook (141), Caleb Hanson (149), Mekhi Lewis (174), TJ Stewart (184), Andy Smith (197), and Hunter Catka (285). The Hokies return to the mat on Jan. 26 hosting North Carolina in their first ACC match of the season.
