Virginia Tech to play Michigan & Dusty May in opening game of 2024 Fort Myers Tip-Off

Slowly but surely, the 2024-25 Virginia Tech men's basketball schedule is rounding into form. The ACC games will be announced at a later day, but the non-conference games starting to be officially put into place this summer.

Currently, the Hokies have non-conference games scheduled against Penn State on Nov. 15 in Baltimore, Maryland as part of the Hall of Fame Series, a home game against Jacksonville on Nov. 20, a home game against former teammates Tyler Nickel and MJ Collins against Vanderbilt as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge on Dec. 4 and a road game on Dec. 21 against Saint Joseph's at The Palestra as part of the 2024 Holiday Hoopfest. Wednesday, two more games were made official as part of the Fort Myers Tip-Off right before Thanksgiving.

Virginia Tech to open Fort Myers Tip-Off against Michigan

Last November, it was announced that Virginia Tech would be part of the 2024 Fort Myers Tip-Off and on Wednesday, the matchups were officially announced. There will be two four-team brackets, Palms Division and Beach Division and the Hokies are part of the Beach Division and will open with Michigan. The Wolverines will be playing under first-year head coach Dusty May, who will be playing the Hokies for the second straight season after his Florida Atlantic team beat Tech in the championship game of the 2023 ESPN Events Invitational last November, 84-50.

The other game in the Beach Division will pit South Carolina against Xavier with the winner and losers meeting two nights later on Nov. 27. This will be the seventh meeting between Michigan and Virginia Tech with the Wolverines winning for of the six games, however, the Hokies have won the last two.

Monday, Nov. 26

  • Virginia Tech vs. Michigan, 6 p.m.
  • Xavier vs. South Carolina, 8:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Nov. 27

  • Third-Place Game, 6 p.m.
  • Championship Game, 8:30 p.m.
