It took nearly all spring, but Virginia Tech men's basketball coach Mike Young put together a roster for the 2024-25 season following a mass exodus in the transfer portal out of Blacksburg following the season in late March.

Now that the roster is nearly set, Virginia Tech is putting together a non-conference schedule and they officially announced a rumor from Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports that the Hokies and Saint Joseph's in December.

Virginia Tech men's basketball non-conference schedule coming together

Last season, it was announced that the Hokies were part of the Fort Myers Tip-Off in November where they will open the tournament at home against Jacksonville on Nov. 25, then head south to finish it out in Florida around Thanksgiving. Then back in May, Virginia Tech announced that they were going to play Big Ten opponent Penn State in the Hall of Fame Series in Baltimore, Maryland on Nov. 15.

Now the Hokies will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. on Dec. 21 to play Saint Joseph's at The Palestra in the 2024 Holiday Hoopfest. It will be the seventh all-time matchup between the Hokies and Hawks, former Atlantic-10 foes. It will mark the first game at The Palestra for Virginia Tech since 2009.

This game will be played in the backyard of Hysier Miller, who transferred to Virginia Tech earlier this spring after playing the last three seasons at Temple. This game will also mark the final non-conference game on the Hokies schedule before ACC play kicks into full gear after Christmas. The conference schedule will be released at a later date.
