Virginia Tech men's basketball to open ACC play at home against Pittsburgh
By Scott Roche
After being eliminated in the second round of the NIT Tournament last March, the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team went through a mass exodus of players. Several key pieces of the rotation that were eligible to return for the 2024-25 season hit the transfer portal with Mylyjael Poteat the only one to come back after entering the portal.
The mass exodus left head coach Mike Young and his staff scrambling to put together a roster for the upcoming season and they did it through the transfer portal. Their non-conference schedule has been released for some time and includes an interesting matchup in the ACC/SEC Challenge in December when Tyler NIckel and MJ Collins make their return to Cassell Coliseum when Vanderbilt visits.
Like the women, the men are adding SMU, Stanford, and California to the conference this season which makes for some interesting travel logistics. Tuesday night, the ACC released the men’s conference schedule for the Hokies.
