Virginia Tech men’s basketball faces massive recruiting weekend
By Scott Roche
All eyes this weekend are going to be on the Virginia Tech football team as they host Rutgers on Saturday afternoon at Lane Stadium. Along with hosting the Scarlet Knights and priority recruits, it’s also going to be a key recruiting for men’s basketball coach Mike Young and his staff.
Four-star and Top 50 recruit Kayden Mingo will take a visit this weekend and he’ll be joined by another Class of 2025 recruit that would also fit a need for the Hokies in that class. They already have two commitments for next season, but they still have two open spots because of the new rule changes and guard play and perimeter shooting is a priority.
Virginia Tech men’s basketball to host Simon Walker
Four-star Simon Walker from Alabama will visit Blacksburg and according to 247Sports, this will be his last visit before committing some time in the next couple of weeks. Iowa, Auburn, and Butler are all in on Walker, who has visited each of those schools, while the Hokies are making a late push with this being his final visit before a decision. He did have a visit to Clemson scheduled for next weekend, however, he canceled that visit and it makes you wonder whether or not he’s already made his decision. If he has, Virginia Tech has a chance to make one last huge push.
Walker is considered a rising prospect as a rising senior after a very good summer on the AAU circuit and with forward Sin’Cere Jones and center Christian Gurdak already committed to next season’s class, Walker would be a huge addition, as would Kayden Mingo.
Guard play, someone who can handle the ball, shoot, and create their shot is someone that the Hokies class for next season needs, and they have two recruits on campus this weekend that fits the mold, Mingo and Walker.
