This weekend is a big recruiting weekend for the Virginia Tech football team who will have a number of big recruits visiting during the Hokies game against Rutgers. Not to be outdone, it is also going to be a big recruiting weekend for men's basketball coach Mike Young and his staff.

Needing to get more work done in the Class of 2025, the Hokies will host four-star guard Kayden Mingo from New York. He is a Top 50 recruit for Long Island Lutheran, New York, and the 6-foot-3, 185-pounder is one of the better guards in the country remaining.

Last season, he averaged 15.2 points a game while shooting 44% from behind the arc, while grabbing 4.8 rebounds a game and dishing out 4.4 assists a night. Mingo has held an offer from Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, and Penn State for some time, but he also has offers from Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Northwestern, and Georgia. He will make some visits to those schools in the not-too-distant-future.

Currently in the Class of 2025, Virginia Tech has commitments from Top 150 three-star forward Sin'Cere Jones back in June, while Top 100 center Christian Gurdak committed to the Hokies in July. Gurdak is the big name in the class as the Gonzaga Prep standout is big at both ends of the court with his ability to finish around the basket while altering shots and rebounding on the defensive end. He has a nice mid-range shot which could be very effective in college.

With a forward and center committed in the class, it would be wise for Young and his staff to focus on guard play and that is where Mingo comes in. It's going to take a huge recruiting pitch from Virginia Tech to get a commitment down the line, but his visit is a chance to impress the standout who would fit in seamlessly into the Virginia Tech lineup.
