Virginia Tech looks to break three-game losing streak against Florida State
By Scott Roche
The Virginia Tech men’s basketball team returns home to Cassell Coliseum Tuesday night playing their worst stretch of basketball through the 2023-24 season. Hokies will host Florida State on a three-game losing streak and looking to avoid a regular season sweep at the hands of the Seminoles.
Three consecutive losses have put an end to Virginia Tech’s NCAA Tournament hopes, unless they win the ACC Tournament next month, and now if they want to play basketball beyond the conference tournament next month, they will have to settle for another NIT bid for the second straight year.
Virginia Tech vs. Florida State, How to Watch, Preview
This game will have a late start time and begin at 9 o’clock and be broadcast on ESPNU and streamed on FuboTV.
The Hokies are coming off of their worst loss of the season Saturday night at Notre Dame. Virginia Tech continued their trend of struggling at both ends of the floor in the second half and gave up 74 points to an Irish team that has struggled at times this season both at home and on the road. The defense for Mike Young’s team has been good in Blacksburg, but not so much on the road.
Florida State comes into the game with the same overall record as Tech at 13-10, but they are 7-5 in the ACC. That is somewhat a surprise as they struggled at times in their non-conference schedule, including a loss at home to Lipscomb, 78-75, in late December. In the first matchup between the two teams this season, the Seminoles won by three points, 77-74, on Jan. 6 and their length and athleticism bothered Virginia Tech in the second half.
This is a game that will tell us a lot about where the Hokies are at right now after three losses. They’re at home and they need to not only shoot the ball well, but they need to play 40 minutes of defense as well as keeping Florida State off the boards. We’re going with a Hokies win to break their losing streak.
