There was a lot of action this past weekend with Virginia Tech athletics, highlighted by the football team beating Stanford, 31-7, on the West Coast. Here is a weekend roundup from Blacksburg.

Women's soccer stuns No. 6 Florida State

Trailing 2-0 late in the second half, it looked like the women's soccer team was going to come up short in an ACC upset of No. 6 Florida State at Thompson Field Sunday afternoon. The Seminoles, the defending national champions looked to have the game wrapped up, but the Hokies had other ideas.

Virginia Tech rallied with three goals in the final 11 minutes to pick up a huge win for NCAA Tournament purposes. Sarah Rosenbaum cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 79th minute then five minutes later, Kylie Marshall tied the game. Just under three minutes later, Taylor Price scored the game-winner with three minutes left to stun the Seminoles.

With the victory, the Hokies improved to 9-3-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the ACC. They return to the pitch Thursday night when they host SMU at Thompson Field at 7 p.m.

Volleyball swept by Florida schools

It was not a good weekend for the Hokies volleyball team who fell below .500 to 6-8 overall and they remained winless in the ACC in four matches. They dropped a straight-set match at home to Miami Friday night, then Florida State swept them 3-0 Sunday.

Men's soccer loses Commonwealth Cup match to Virginia

Since opening ACC play with a win at Syracuse, the Hokies dropped their third straight conference match Friday night at Virginia, 2-1, in what maybe the most disappointing loss of the season to date for Virginia Tech. At 6-3-1, the Hokies will host North Carolina State Friday night in their next match.

Kerry Carpenter & Tigers to play Game 2 of ALDS Monday

Former Virginia Tech baseball player Kerry Carpenter and the Detroit Tigers will look to even their best-of-five American League Division Series against the Cleveland Indians on Monday. The Guardians won Game 1, 7-0, Saturday and Carpenter went 1-for-4 as the DH.
