In this edition of Virginia Tech Hokies News, some football players were named to preseason award lists, the ACC volleyball preseason poll was released, a former Hokies football player was released from an NFL team, and more.

Jaylin Lane and Bhayshul Tuten named to preseason watch lists

Two returning members of the Virginia Tech football team were named to a pair of preseason watch list awards. Wide receiver Jaylin Lane was named to the Wuerffel Trophy which is given to an FBS player who best combines community service with leadership. He also was named to the Allstate Dood Works Team which recognizes college football athletes for their unwavering commitment to the community.

Running back Bhayshul Tuten was named to the Paul Hornung Award watch list which is given to the most versatile player in major college football.

ACC releases preseason volleyball coaches poll and All-ACC team

The ACC preseason coaches poll was released and Virginia Tech came in at No. 17 out of 18 teams. Pittsburgh, Stanford, Louisville, Georgia Tech and Florida State were the top 5 teams. The Hokies did not place anyone on the preseason volleyball All-ACC team.

Virginia Tech football climbs in On3 Class of 2025 recruiting rankings

Recruiting for Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry has been good the last couple of months within the Class of 2025 and the Hokies have climbed to 36th in On3's rankings for rising seniors. Pry has done a lot of his recruiting work in the state of Virginia in the class, something he has made a priority since taking over for Justin Fuente.

Dolphins waive Mario Kendricks

Former Virginia Tech defensive lineman Mario Kendricks signed with the Miami Dolphins, but one week into training camp, Miami signed wide receiver Willie Sneed IV and released Kendricks, who became the second former Hokie released this summer after Pheldarius Payne was released by the Houston Texans.
