Virginia Tech Hokies News: NFL contract extension, transfer portal addition & more
By Scott Roche
In this edition of Virginia Tech Hokies News, the baseball and softball teams look to rebound from a frustrating weekend on the diamonds with a pair of non-conference games and more.
Virginia Tech baseball opens homestand
Coming off of losing two out of three at North Carolina, the Hokies baseball team returns to English Field Wednesday night to kick off a non-conference homestand that lasts through the upcoming weekend.
Virginia Tech will host North Carolina A&T at 7 o’clock looking to improve on their 27-14 record and continue to rack up wins with three weeks remaining in the regular season before the ACC Tournament and hopefully NCAA Tournament. After Wednesday, the Hokies will have a weekend off from conference play and host Ohio for three games, a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday.
Virginia Tech softball remains on the road
Like the baseball team, the Hokies’ softball team will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing weekend on the road, dropping two out of three at Syracuse. The Orange, who are in the bottom half of the ACC standings, put a big dent in Tech’s chances of hosting an NCAA Regional in a couple of weeks.
At 38-11-1, the Hokies will travel to Liberty Wednesday night before returning home to host Robert Morris over the weekend for a doubleheader on Saturday ahead of the ACC Tournament next week at Duke.
Minnesota Vikings extend former Virginia Tech OL
In a not-so-surprising move, the Minnesota Vikings exercised the fifth-year option on offensive lineman Christian Darrisaw. Selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Darrisaw was a first-team All-ACC selection in 202. The former Hokie is 24 years old and will look to be a part of the future with Minnesota and former Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy, who they just drafted.
Virginia Tech punter enters the transfer portal
Virginia Tech punter Bryce LaFollette entered the transfer portal Tuesday, the last day to submit paperwork. According to Kolby Crawford of 247Sports, this does not affect the number of scholarships the Hokies have.
