In this edition of Virginia Tech Hokies News, two women’s basketball players get honored, MJ Collins plays a big role in the Hokeis men's basketball team getting to the second round of the NIT, and more.

Elizabeth Kitley & Georgia Amoore make the AP All-American team

The honors continue to come in for Elizabeth Kitley and Georgia Amoore. They both received Associated Press honors with Kitley making the Associated Press All-American second team and Amoore the third.

Virginia Tech kicks off the NCAA Tournament Friday afternoon at 3:30 against Marshall at Cassell Coliseum and Kitley’s availability is still uncertain after suffering an injury against Virginia on March 3.

MJ Collins stays hot

The men’s basketball team is 4-1 in the month of March and a lot of that has to do with MJ Collins and his continued breakout this season. In wins over Wake Forest, Louisville, Notre Dame, and Richmond with a loss at Florida State mixed in, he has been very good at both ends of the floor.

He’s averaging 14 points a game on 50% shooting and his 3-point shooting has become as a surprise for the Hokies, something that has not gone lost on head coach Mike Young.

"It’s a big deal. He had a couple of big baskets. He is shooting the ball well. Proud of him. He had some real struggles in November, and December, I think he was 0-for-November, but he hung in there with it and stayed the course and has played very, very, very good basketball here for quite some time."
