Virginia Tech Hokies News: Hall of Fame class, WBB recruit announces huge change

In this edition of Virginia Tech Hokies News, the 2024 Sports Hall of Fame class was announced, a softball player in the transfer portal commits to an ACC school, and a women's basketball recruit who will announce her college decision Wednesday makes a surprising announcement.

2024 Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame class announced

Virginia Tech announced that eight new members are part of the 2024 Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame class and some big names are on the list.

Tyrod Taylor, Jeff Artis-Gray, Duane Brown, Larsen Bowker, Dave Cianelli, Brittany Pryor, Logan Shinholser, and Heather Savage will be inducted.

Brown was a two-time All-ACC selection in football during his time in Blacksburg as he started out as a tight end before transitioning to the offensive line. Taylor, who still plays in the NFL, was a three-time ACC champion and ACC Player of the Year in 2010. He went 34-8 in Blacksburg, threw for 7,017 yards, and rushed for 2,196.

Artis-Gray was a five-time All-American for the Hokies track and field team from 2011-13. Bowker was a tennis coach for Virginia Tech, for 12 years leading the men's program and six years leading the women's program. Cianelli led the Hokies track and field and cross country programs for 23 years from 2001-24. He was named ACC Coach of the Year 20 times during that time. Shinholser was a four-time NCAA qualifier as a diver from 2009-13 and represented the United States in the 2012 Olympic Trials. Savage was a two-time All-American swimmer for the Hokies. Pryor was a six-time All-American and won six ACC Championships from 2006-09.

Teagan Thrunk commits in the transfer portal

Teagan Thrunk was one of four Virginia Tech softball players to enter the transfer portal this weekend and it didn't take her long to find a new home. Monday, Thrunk made it official when she committed to North Carolina State.

Kamryn Kitchen makes surprising announcement

Virginia Tech women's basketball coach Megan Duffy got a big commitment from guard Katie Sears of North Carolina and this week, she'll find out if she gets another big addition from Kamryn Kitchen. She will announce her decision on Wednesday afternoon, but he recently put on her X account that she reclassified from the Class of 2025 to the Class of 2024. This is big in terms of the 2024-25 season.
