In this edition of Virginia Tech Hokies News, the football team is set to release their new uniforms, a former Hokies' basketball player is off to a strong start in the NBA summer league, and a key football and baseball recruit is set to announce his decision Wednesday night.

Football hints to release of new uniforms Friday

The long wait for Virginia Tech football fans appears to be over. The long-awaited release of the Hokies' new uniforms appears to be revealed on Friday after the football X account dropped a hint Tuesday in a tweet.

The release of the new uniforms Friday would make sense with the release of EA Sports College Football '25 scheduled for one week later, July 19.

Former Hokie Keve Aluma shinging for 76ers in Summer League

Former Virginia Tech men's basketball player Keve Aluma is off to a very good start in the 2024 NBA Summer League in Utah with the Philadelphia 76ers. In his first game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, he had 12 points, made all five of his field goal attempts, and grabbed eight rebounds on a 102-92 win.

Against the Memphis Grizzlies, he had 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting and four rebounds in an 87-85 loss. Philadelphia will play Utah on Wednesday at 9 p.m. on ESPN before heading to Las Vegas for the bigger Summer League the NBA has in July.

Football recruit to make commitment Wednesday night

Four-star football and baseball recruit Micah Matthews will announce his commitment Wednesday night at 7:30. The dual-sport athlete de-committed from South Carolina last fall and now has a short list of Utah, Virginia, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech. In terms of football, the Hokies make a lot of sense for Matthews, but in terms of baseball, the Tar Heels might make the most sense. We'll see what he decides and for what it's worth, 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction has Virginia Tech his commitment.
