In this edition of Virginia Tech Hokies News, football coach Brent Pry gets another commitment, the baseball team will host their final ACC series of the season and more.

Baseball to host Miami

Coming off a disappointing 13-8 loss at Liberty that saw Chris Cannizzaro belt three home runs and drive in four, the Hokies baseball team will host Miami over the weekend in their final ACC series of the season at home in 2024.

Virginia Tech is 13-11 in conference play and 31-15 overall, while the Hurricanes are struggling this season at just 8-16 in the ACC and 21-26 overall. This feels like the Hokies need to win at least two out of three going into their final conference regular season series next weekend at Virginia.

Football gets a PWO commitment

Charlie O’Connor committed to Virginia Tech and Pry on a PWO (Preferred Walk-On). According to his X page, the Manhattan Beach, California native had a strong 2023 season with 1,018 receiving yards, 67 receptions, and nine touchdowns. More depth for the Hokies on the outside.

Softball racks up ACC awards, loses in ACC Tournament

As the ACC softball reached the semifinals on Friday, the ACC announced their awards for the 2024 season, and Virginia Tech, which lost 6-2 to Georgia Tech in the ACC quarterfinals Thursday night, finished with several players that were honored for their strong regular seasons.

Selected to First Team All-ACC for Virginia Tech were senior outfielder Addy Greene and junior outfielder Cori McMillan. The Hokies placed four players in the Second Team All-ACC, senior second baseman Cameron Fagan, junior pitcher Emma Lemley, freshman pitcher Emma Mazzarone, and junior third baseman Bre Peck. Freshman first baseman Michelle Chatfield and senior Majia Louko made the Third Tema All-ACC. Chatfield and Mazzarone also were selected to the All-Freshman Team for Virginia Tech.

The All-ACC selections were selected by the conference head coaches.
