Virginia Tech Football: Top 3 biggest things we learned in a massive month of June
By Scott Roche
As the calendar turns to July, that means one thing, college football is less than two months around the corner. The 2024 season is going to be a big one with the College Football Playoff expanding to 12 teams and that gives a lot of teams more hope in November, as well as avoids a complete disaster like last season when Florida State went 13-0, won the ACC Championship game before being kept out of the CFP.
For the first time in some time, there are high expectations surrounding Virginia Tech as they closed out the 2023 campaign by winning six of their final nine games, including the Military Bowl over Tulane, to finish 7-6 and after getting a ton of retainment, it's easy to see why the Hokies could be a dark horse this season in the ACC. After a very eventful June, here are three things we learned about Virginia Tech over the last 30 days.
Pat McAfee compliments Virginia Tech fanbase
Pat McAfee's status for College Gameday is still in limbo, but if there is one thing the talk show host and Virginia Tech fans can agree on, it's Blacksburg. In early June, there was a segment on his show discussing long-shot teams to make the expanded CFP, and Virginia Tech came up the former NFL punter said that the fanbase was "awesome'' and it would be “stuuuuupendous” if the Hokies were to every host a playoff game inside Lane Stadium.
An outspoken host, McAfee is not wrong. What an atmosphere it would be in Blacksburg if it hosted a CFP game or heck, even Gameday.
