By Scott Roche
Recently, Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry has had some success recruiting in Ohio. Two members of his Class of 2024, defensive lineman Andrew Hanchuk and interior offensive lineman Tommy Ricard, signed with the Hokies. This weekend, Pry will host another recruit from the state of Ohio.
Three-star offensive lineman Jermiel Atkins from the Class of 2025 will visit Blacksburg on Friday after he released his final three schools and an announcement date for this summer.

Atkins released his Top 3 schools with Virginia Tech, Kentucky, and Minnesota making the cut. The 6-foot-8, 290-pound lineman was offered by the Hokies in February and this will be the first of three recruiting weekends the Dayton, Ohio native has lined up. He’ll visit Kentucky on June 15 and Minnesota on June 21, while setting an announcement date of July 4.
The Trotwood-Madison High School senior-to-be is the 40th-ranked offensive tackle in the Class of 2025 national by 247Sports and is a Top 20 junior in Ohio. Currently, Virginia Tech has one commitment in the Class of 2025 on the offensive line in Carter Stallard from Christiansburg, Virginia. The other commits in the class on the offensive side of the ball are quarterback Kelden Ryan, wide receiver Jayden Anderson, while Knahlij Harrell of Virginia Beach at cornerback, and linebacker Brett Clatterbaugh has committed on the defensive side of the ball.
Pry has been putting some focus from his Penn State days as a defensive coordinator in the state of Ohio in terms of recruiting. Hanchuk and Ricard are a start, but making the final three for an offensive lineman, who mostly plays tackle in high school, is big as there will be a future need along the offensive line for the Hokies.
