Defense gets huge depth from the transfer portal

Speaking of depth, Virginia Tech entered May with two available roster spots and they were both filled on the defensive side for coordinator Chris Marve. The Hokies defensive line, which is already deep and talented, got a major boost when Alabama transfer Khurtiss Perry committed on May 13. He was the 54th overall prospect in the Class of 2022 when he signed with former Alabama coach Nick Saban but got limited time with the Crimson Tide. He joins a deep unit that will cause a lot of headaches for opposing signal callers.

Miami transfer, Kaleb Spencer, committed to the Hokies and the former Hurricanes lineback/defensive back was a surprise addition late in the transfer portal cycle. He will add big depth to a unit that already has Mansoor Delane and Dorian Strong coming back in the secondary. The camp battles on the defensive side of the ball are going to be fascinating this summer.

It was another successful month for Pry and his staff with two huge transfer portal commitments, as well as recruiting picking up. June will be huge in terms of recruits for Virginia Tech.
