Virginia Tech Defensive Report Card vs. Old Dominion
Old Dominion broke two big plays, a read option by backup QB Quinn Henicle for a 65-yard touchdown run and a 48-yard run by former Hokie Bryce Duke, but after that, the defensive line was a big factor. Antwaun Powell-Ryland finished with four sacks, two forced fumbles, and one recovery, Kelvin Gilliam had six tackles and a sack. They shut down the Monarchs in the second half with their only touchdown coming against the backups.
It was another good weekend from the linebackers with Caleb Woodson leading the way with seven tackles and Sam Brumfield having six. Jaden Keller had four, while Keonta Jenkins and Keli Lawson each had their moments combing for four sacks, but things are going to get tougher this weekend against a talented Rutgers team.
It was another good game for Mose Phillips who is becoming a key member of the secondary. he finished with six tackles and Mansoor Delane had another interception. Like the linebackers, this is going to be a step up in talent in six days against the Scarlet Knights.
After two wins, Virginia Tech is looking to pick up their first statement victory of the season against Rutgers before ACC play begins against a very good Miami team. It's a big game week for Pry, his staff, and his players.
