There were several factors for the Virginia Tech football team turning things around in 2023 after their 1-3 start on both sides of the ball. Injuries forced some players out of the lineup and some players took full advantage of their chance and made the most of it.

Offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen and head coach Brent Pry made some changes on offense once ACC play began and they began running the ball better and it opened up the passing game. In their five ACC wins, they scored at least 30 points a game.

The Military Bowl is seven days away and it's time to take a quick look back at the 2023 regular season before we shift our focus to Tulane University on Dec. 27. Here is the five most valuable players on offense for the Hokies in 2023.

John Love

You might be thinking, John Love? The place kicker? He's not part of the offense. Well, I guess you would be correct, however, the kicking game is a big part of college football and Love was very good for Virginia Tech this season.

How good? He was perfect on extra points going 39-for-39 and he was 20-for-22 on field goal attempts. He was 7-for-7 on field goals from 20-29 yards, 7-for-8 from 30-39 yards and he was 6-for-7 from 40-49 yards, with his longest field goal coming from 47 yards. Quietly, the kicking game is important in college football and Love was as good of a kicker as there was out there.
