Going into the 2024 season, many players are returning for Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry and his staff. Mix in some transfers that will step in right away and play, that’s a good recipe for success for the Hokies. It also means they don’t have to rush any incoming freshmen along.

Of course, some of the incoming freshmen are going to make it hard on the coaches to keep them from playing as the season goes along, but which ones and up playing some, remain to be seen. One incoming freshman who could easily crack the lineup at some point in 2024 is safety Quentin Reddish.

Chris Hummer of 247Sports listed 100 impactful true freshmen for the 2024 season and while some teams have multiple players, Virginia Tech had one, Reddish.

"Virginia Tech doesn't have many needs entering the 2024 season as it returns more production than any Power Four team in the country (stick that fact in your holster and impress your friends all summer). But safety was an area you could have envisioned the Hokies adding more depth via the portal. Virginia Tech stuck with what it had coming out of spring, including Reddish, who had a very impressive debut. "

Pry did not add many pieces in the secondary in the transfer portal, but Reddish’s play in the spring didn’t force the hand of his head coach and force him to dive into the portal in that area. Defensive linemen Kelvin Gilliam, Aeneas Peebles, Khurtiss Perry, and Kemari Copeland were added from the portal on the defensive side along with linebacker Sam Brumfield and Miami’s Kaleb Spencer

Reddish appears more than ready to come in and make an impact in 2024, something that defensive coordinator Chris Marve thinks will happen and if it does, it’ll be big for his future in Blacksburg.
