Virginia Tech football hosting a priority transfer QB Saturday
By Scott Roche
There are two needs that Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry could use in the current transfer portal, another quarterback and an offensive lineman. Actually, a QB is a must after Dylan Wittke entered the transfer portal last week and committed to the University of Minnesota this week.
After the Hokies’ Spring Game on April 13, Pry said that Pop Watson was ahead of Wittke as QB2 behind starter Kyron Drones and it was not a surprising statement considering how things went in the game and during the spring. Now with a hole to fill in the quarterback room, Pry is hosting a huge transfer portal signal caller this weekend with the hope they can impress him enough to decide to come to Blacksburg for the fall.
Virginia Tech hosting Collin Schlee on Saturday
UCLA transfer Collin Schlee will be at Virginia Tech on Saturday. The Maryland native played in two games for the Bruins last season and threw for 217 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions while rushing for 425 yards. He helped to rally UCLA to a Los Angeles Bowl win over Boise State in December with his arm and legs.
In 2022, he had his best college season for Kent State with 2,109 passing yards and 13 touchdowns. He rushed for 492 yards for the Golden Flashes and four touchdowns in the MAC.
Last season we saw first-hand just how important a backup quarterback is when Grant Wells went down and Drones was forced into action. The Baylor transfer took full advantage of the opportunity and turned the Hokies’ season around from a 1-3 start to becoming bowl-eligible. Watson is good, but adding another quarterback for next season with experience like Schlee would be a huge addition for Pry. This feels like the guy that Virginia Tech would like to get.
