Virginia Tech football to host 4-star QB recruit during spring game this weekend
By Scott Roche
Saturday, the Virginia Tech football team will play their annual spring game at Lane Stadium at 3 o'clock. This year's game is an antipacted one with a lot of key players returning from last year's 7-6 in Brent Pry's second season in Blacksburg.
Spring practices, if you listen to Pry and the other coaches, have been going very well the last couple of weeks and it's going to be a fun afternoon to watch some of the position battles play out. One of those position battles is the backup quarterback spot behind Kyron Drones between Pop Watson and Dylan Wittke. Saturday just also happens to be a day when Pry and the Hokies will host a four-star quarterback, Malik Washington.
The Severn, Maryland native from the Class of 2025 has a lot of offers to choose from, including Maryland, Syracuse, Central Florida, and Oregon just to name a few. The Archbishop Spalding signal caller is a consensus Top 20 QB in the class and he has an impressive arm. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound Washington will get a first-hand look at the Hokies spring game.
This past season, he led Archbishop Spalding to the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) A Conference title. He captured a lot of awards including Player of the Year.
He is ranked high by a lot of the recruiting sites and will get a lot of attention until he makes this decision. Virginia Tech and Pry have their work cut out for them if they are going to get him, but they also have a Class of 2025 quarterback already committed, Kelden Ryan from Texas. The class is off to a good start in terms of recruiting for the Hokies with several key in-state commits and they have the opportunity to add another top QB to the class with Washington.
