Virginia Tech Football: Hokies have sneaky good depth at one position for 2024
By Scott Roche
Now that the dust has settled on the 2024 Spring Game for the Virginia Tech football team, there are some positives that we learned from the two-hour game. Going into the game, if there was one thing we knew, it was how deep the wide receiver room was and the potential that they have in 2024 to be special.
What we didn't know was how the running back room has the potential to be a sneaky good deep room, even before they make an addition (if they even do) from the transfer portal.
Virginia Tech set up to have a potential sneaky good RB room in 2024
Let's be honest, we all know what you're going to get with Bhayshul Tuten running the ball and heck, even returning kickoffs after he brought a couple to the house last season, including an impressive one against Florida State.
Add in quarterback Kyron Drones and you have a nasty combination that can make life difficult for opposing teams. But after that was the question and this spring, one thing we learned is that there is more in the room that will likely earn their way onto the field in 2024.
Malachi Thomas brings a dimension where he is a tough runner sideline to sideline but also can throw the ball, something offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen used last season and we also got a glimpse in the Spring Game.
One player to watch over the summer and this fall is P.J. Prioleau who left a strong impression on a lot of people Saturday. A talented and shifty back, he showed his speed in the opening field on his first touchdown run when he hit the hole hard and outran the defense down the sideline. He is certainly a three-down back who can make an impact next season.
All the talk has been about the wide receiver room having depth next season, but the Hokies running back room is one that can play a big part in the 2024 season.
