Dec. 27: Virginia Tech 41, Tulane 20

Virginia Tech was riding momentum into the Military Bowl against Tulane and was looking to put a huge bow on the season and get even more momentum going into 2024 with a win over the Green Wave. The Hokies took a 17-10 lead into halftime when Drones connected with tight end Harrison Saint Germain for a 1-yard touchdown with eight seconds left in the half. Tulane tied the game in the third quarter off a Hokies turnover, but the rest of the half belonged to Pry and his team.

Tuten had a pair of touchdown runs of 9 and 12 yards sandwiched around a 10-yard touchdown pass to Benji Gosnell and a Love field goal. Playing in the pouring rain, Drones rushed for 176 yards on 20 carries and Tuten had 136. As a team, Virginia Tech rushed for 362 yards against a Green Wave defense that was stout against the run. Yes, they were missing some pieces who opted out for different reasons and transfers, but it was still an impressive showing for Pry’s team and putting a huge exclemation point on the season.

The offseason is here, but there’s no way around it for 2024, the Hokies could easily be a nine-win team, something that has not been echoed in a long time around the program.
