2 Virginia Tech football greats on 2025 College Football Hall of Fame ballot

Monday, the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame was revealed and two former Virginia Tech players were on the ballot. This is the first time on the ballot for one of the players with the other finding his name on the ballot again.

Former Hokies’ center Jim Pyne is on the ballot for the first time and the school's first-ever unanimous All-American selection in 1993 had an impressive career in Blacksburg. He also was a finalist for the Lombardi and Outland Trophies that season and was a three-time Big East Conference selection. The Milford, Mass. native played 2,700 snaps in 42 games at Virginia Tech, allowing just one sack.

After Virginia Tech, he spent seven years in the NFL. He played three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a left guard, two years with the Cleveland Browns as a left guard and center, and one year with the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles as a center. He played in 81 NFL games during his career and was selected by Tampa Bay in the seventh round of the 1994 Draft.

Vick is making another appearance on the ballot after a stellar career at Virginia Tech. He led the Hokies to the 1999 BCS Championship Game against Florida State where they lost 46-29. In 1999, he threw for 1,840 yards and 12 touchdowns, while rushing for 585 yards and eight touchdowns when Tech was in the Big East. He led the conference in yards per game with 248 in leading the Hokies to an 11-0 regular season. A year later, he threw for 1,234 yards and eight touchdowns while rushing for 617 and eight touchdowns.

He was drafted first overall by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2001 NFL Draft. Both players deserve to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
