Virginia Tech Football: Former Hokies player commits in the transfer portal & a 4-Star RB has Tech on his Top 10
By Scott Roche
In this edition of Virginia Tech Football News, a Hokie who entered the transfer portal has committed to another school, who is ironically on Virginia Tech's 2024 schedule and a four-star running back releases his Top 10 schools and the Hokies cracked the list.
Bryce Duke commits in the transfer portal
In December, Virginia Tech running back Bryce Duke entered the transfer portal, but like other teammates who entered the portal, he stayed with the team through the Hokies, 41-20, Military Bowl victory over Tulane University on Dec. 27.
After being in the portal for a month, Duke announced that he has committed to Old Dominion, which just so happens to be on Virginia Tech's schedule in 2024. This past season, the Hokies opened the season with a, 36-17, win over the Monarchs in Blacksburg, and next season, Tech will travel to Old Dominion for a game on Sept. 14 in Week 3. In September, Duke had one carry for four yards against his future team.
It's not surprising to see Duke transfer as he fell down the depth chart this season for offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen and head coach Brent Pry after Bhayshul Tuten had a strong season and is returning next season which could be an even better season for the North Carolina A&T transfer.
4-Star RB recruit has Virginia Tech o Top 10 list
Four-star running back Iverson Howard in the Class of 2025 has Virginia Tech on his list of schools that have offered him a scholarship, but the Quince Orchard High School talent from Gaithersburg, Maryland posted on X that his recruiting is still open for any schools that want to get involved.
There are some top programs on his list and more will likely be added, but Virginia Tech being on there for the talented back shows that the Hokies are becoming a more preferred option with some of th nation's top talent under Pry.
