Thursday, Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry secured his sixth in-state recruit commitment when defensive lineman Christian Evans committed to the Hokies. It wasn't surprising to see him commit there as some predictions had him landing in Blacksburg.

After committing, Evans told rival.com why the four-star defensive edge rusher committed to the Hokies and he wants to follow in the footsteps of some of the greats to don the Virginia Tech uniform.

"It means a lot as a top in-state guy to play for the top school in the state. I met with Coach Pry, and he started talking about the future of the program and where he’s taking them. He was talking about how to get Tech back to where they were, and how they have to get back to getting the top players in Virginia. I want to follow in the steps of Virginia greats that came before me — Mike Vick, Bruce Smith, DeAngelo Hall. They were there, and Tech was very good. So I feel like with me coming there, it should create some more ripples throughout Virginia."

If there is one thing that is clear about Brent Pry and his staff, it's that they are focusing heavily within the state of Virginia when it comes to recruiting and that is evident with six of their seven current commits in the Class of 2025 being from the Commonwealth. Pry is beginning his third season with Virginia Tech and it's safe to say that the rebuild following Justin Fuente is moving quicker than once thought it might.

With a ton of retainment on the current roster for the 2024 season and the huge strides being made in Virginia in recruiting with the Class of 2025, Pry is on his way to bringing big excitement around the program again. Now commits are coming to follow in the footsteps of some of the greats in Blacksburg, something that didn't seem possible just a short time ago.
