Virginia Tech football betting odds prove how fast Brent Pry & his staff have quickly come

The rebuild in Blacksburg has picked up speed for Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry and his staff going into 2024.

After coming off a 3-8 first season under Brent Pry, Year 2 last fall looked like Virginia Tech might be going down the same road after starting the season 1-3 with non-conference losses to Purdue, Marshall, and Rutgers after a season-opening win over Old Dominion.

Everything changed once ACC play began as the Hokies went 5-3 in conference play to finish the season at 6-6 following a Thanksgiving Weekend, 55-17, win at Virginia. They put a bow on a 7-6 season with a 41-20 victory over Tulane in the Military Bowl.

In between the Virginia win and Tulane win, Pry and Virginia Tech got a ton of retainment from some key players off the 2023 season on both sides of the ball. Combined with some huge transfer additions, it’s expected to be a big fall in Blacksburg.

It’s not only Virginia Tech fans who are noticing as a lot of national college football writers are jumping on board and expecting the the Hokies to have a good 2024 season. Back in February, their early over/under win total was 7.5 and that seems like good value and low. It just shows how quickly Pry and his staff have quickly rebuilt things.

Virginia Tech's over/under win total shows how fast Pry and his staff have excelled in the rebuild

It should be a little surprising to see the rebuild at its current state given the mess Pry was left by Justin Fuente, but given what has happened over the last 12 months between the transfer portal, recruiting, and the finish to the 2023 season with retainment, it’s safe to say Pry and his staff are ahead of schedule.

One thing that needed to be built was a culture and that is exactly what they have done. Even AD Whit Babcock has noticed and is excited for the 2024 season. All the retainment by some players who could have made the move to the NFL Draft or the transfer portal has sent a strong message.

The over/under win total for Virginia Tech at 7.5 feels like a good bet with retainment and a very manageable schedule in 2024 and it would not be surprising to see the Hokies hit the 10-win total if some things break right for them.
