Virginia Tech fans react to social media post of Megan Duffy & Hokies' players
By Scott Roche
Wednesday, Virginia Tech athletic director Whit Babcock named Marquette coach Megan Duffy his new women's basketball coach replacing Kenny Brooks who left for Kentucky. Thursday, Duffy and her husband landed in Blacksburg ahead of Friday's introductory press conference.
It was a busy day for Duffy in Blacksburg as she met with men's basketball coach Mike Young and football coach Brent Pry. Thursday night, the Virginia Tech Women's Basketball X account dropped a post that gives Hokies' fans more hope that there is going to be some retainment from this past season's roster for next season.
Since Brooks left, Georgia Ammore said goodbye to Virginia Tech fans and entered the transfer portal, and freshman Clara Strack entered the portal as well. Both players have a no-contact tag when they entered, which leads to speculation that they're going to join Brooks in Lexington.
Wednesday afternoon, Carleigh Wenzel announced on X that she's returning next season, but that leaves some other players in question who have not yet made a decision. Virginia Tech fans are hoping a social media post on X by the Virginia Tech Women's Basketball account is a very good sign going forward.
In the post, Duffy meets Wenzel, Rose Micheaux and Matilda Ekh and gives them each a hug. We know that Wenzel is coming back, but the post leaves Virginia Tech fans hoping the Micheaux and Ekh are also returning.
Of course, that post got immediate reaction from Hokie fans and they are hoping that Micheaux and Ekh are staying in Blacksburg.
Again, we haven't heard officially from Micheaux or Ekh on their plans for next season, but this can be a very positive sign for Virginia Tech fans and one that they hope comes true, that they also stay with Wenzel.
