Virginia Tech fans & former teammates react on social media to Elizabeth Kitley having her jersey retired
By Scott Roche
Saturday, Virginia Tech announced that the school is retiring Elizabeth Kitley's No. 33 and will put in the rafters at Cassell Coliseum at some point next season. If there was anyone who deserves to have her number hanging from the rafters, it's Kitley.
In her five years in Blacksburg, she became the best player in program history and lifted Virginia Tech to places they haven't been before with an ACC Tournament Championship, a Final Four berth and an ACC regular season title in 2023-24.
After the announcement, Virginia Tech fans and Kitley's former teammates took to social media to react to the school's announcement by athletic director Whit Babcock. Former teammates Georgia Amoore and Clara Strack, who each transferred to Kentucky to play for Kenny Brooks, reacted on X.
Virginia Tech fans, who began calling for this on social media as the season went along, reacted and are happy that it's happening so soon after the end of her career.
Whenever the night comes when No. 33 goes into the rafters, it's going to be a special night in Blacksburg and it's well-deserved.
