The status of Virginia Tech center Elizabeth Kitley is still up in the air for the ACC Tournament this week in Greensboro, North Carolina, and the NCAA Tournament later this month after suffering an injury on Sunday night at Virginia, but Tuesday, she was rewarded for her 2023-24 regular season.

For the third straight season, Kitley won the ACC Player of the Year Award joining an elite group with Alana Beard of Duke from 2002-04 and Alyssa Thomas from 2012-14 when she played for Maryland.

This season, Kitley averages a double-double with 22.8 points a game and 11.4 rebounds a game while winning six ACC Player of the Week Honors. In helping Virginia Tech go 14-4 to win their first ACC regular season title and the No. 1 seed in this week's tournament, she averaged 24 points and 11 rebounds a game in ACC play.

Other players could have won this award, including Notre Dame's Hannah Hidalgo who was the Defensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year award winner, could have won the award, but without Kitley there is no way that the Hokies are currently in the position they are in without her. The voters got it right. Her biggest basket of the season came back in January when she caught a lob pass from Cayla King and made a shot to beat North Carolina State.

Kitley is scheduled to join ACC PM at 5:30 tonight on the ACC Network.
