Virginia Tech Basketball: Mike Young gives Hunter Cattoor update & Tony Bennett talks Hokies ahead of Wednesday
By Scott Roche
This is a big week in terms of basketball in the Commonwealth. The first Virginia Tech/Virginia battle will take place in Charlottesville Wednesday night. Ahead of the game, both coaches spoke to the media about the upcoming game and Hokies coach Mike Young gave an update on his guard, Hunter Cattoor.
Mike Young gives Hunter Cattoor update
Late in the first half of Virginia Tech's 87-72 victory over Clemson at Cassell Coliseum last Wednesday night, Hokies guard Hunter Cattoor dove on the floor for a loose ball and was kicked on the side of his head by accident by a Clemson player. Cattoor went to the locker room during the media timeout and did not return and he did not play in Saturday night's loss at home to Miami. Young gave an update and it appears his guard's status against the Cavaliers is still in question.
"He's got some tests and some markers he's got to achieve before he's clear to play on Wednesday. I don't know any more than that. Time will tell if he's in uniform on Wednesday."
It's never easy going to play at Virginia and despite Sean Pedulla's last two games, having cattoor back on the floor will be a boost on both ends of floor. Offensively he spreads the floor and defensively he has been playing well this season for Young.
Tony Bennett talks Virginia Tech
Ahead of Wednesday game, Virginia coach Tony Bennett talked about the Hokies, mainly Young, and cracked a joke at his press conference.
I may be biased, but in all seriousness, how can anyone hate Mike Young? He is a class act and always talks highly of his opponents, even Virginia. There without a doubt a lot of mutual respect between the head coaches about the other's program, but when it comes to the fans, the mutual respect may not be like it is between the two coaches.
