Virginia Tech Basketball: Hokies men & women to host a doubleheader at Cassell Coliseum Thursday
By Scott Roche
It's hard to believe, but the Virginia Tech men's and women's basketball teams will play their final non-conference games of the season at Cassell Coliseum before ACC play begins next week right before New Year's.
It will be the second doubleheader this season that the Hokies have played. On opening night on Nov. 6, the women beat High Point, 94-55, and the men followed with a 100-55 victory over Coppin State. Like back in November, the women will play first, followed by the men.
Virginia Tech women to host William & Mary
The Virginia Tech women ranked No. 15 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll Monday, will host the Tribe at 2 o'clock on ACC Network Extra and FuboTV.
Virginia Tech enters the contest coming off an impressive 84-59 victory Sunday night at Rutgers in just their second true road game of the season. Elizabeth Kitley was in foul trouble for a lot of the game, but Georgia Amoore and Matilda Ekh stepped up to carry the offense, which was clicking on all cylinders after a first quarter that saw the game tied 13-13. It was also career win No. 500 for head coach Kenny Brooks. The Hokies begin ACC play on New Year's Eve afternoon against Pittsburgh at home.
Virginia Tech men to host American
Roughly three hours after the women tip-off against William & Mary, the men will play their final non-conference game against American.
Virginia Tech enters the game coming off of a very impressive 73-51 win over Vermont last Saturday at home. The Catamounts are a tough team to play against, but Mike Young's team turned in one of their better defensive performances this season, limiting Vermont to just four made 3s on 20 attempts. This is the final test for the Hokies before they turn their attention to ACC play full-time beginning on Dec. 30 at Wake Forest. Like the women's game, this game can also be seen on FuboTV.
