Virginia Tech baseball has a number of players hoping to hear name called at MLB Draft

All-Star Weekend is well underway in Arlington, Texas, ahead of the upcoming All-Star Game and all of the festivities surrounding the mid-summer event. The Home Run Derby will be Monday night at Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers, with the mid-summer classic Tuesday night.
Before all of that happens, the annual MLB Draft will take place with the first round on Sunday night beginning at 6 p.m., the second through 10th rounds on Monday beginning at 2 p.m., then rounds 11-20 will be Tuesday beginning at 2 p.m. Multiple members of the 2024 Virginia Tech baseball team could likely hear their names called by a major league club over the next three days.
The headline name expected to be taken off the board is Carson DeMartini, who is ranked 93rd by MLB.com. The hard-hitting left-handed batter blasted 21 homers in 2024 and has 46 for his career in Blacksburg. It wouldn't be surprising to see him he a Top 100 selection.
After DeMartini, there are a handful of Hokies who could be drafted this week in Texas. Infielder Christian Martin, while outfielders Eddie Micheletti, Ben Watson, and Chris Cannazzaro are names to watch. Watson was one of the more interesting stories for the Hokies in 2024. After transferring from Div. 3 Elizabethtown College, the fifth-year player had 93 hits for Virginia Tech while batting .419 with 21 doubles, three triples, and four home runs.
On the mound, pitchers Brady Kirtner, Wyatt Parliament, and Jordan Little all are players who could be selected. Over the last two drafts, Virginia Tech has had three or more players selected and it would be surprising not to see that number continue this year.
