Virginia Tech at Rutgers Women's Basketball: How to watch and more
By Scott Roche
For the second time this season, the Virginia Tech women's basketball team will play a true road game when they tip off in New Jersey against Rutgers on Sunday night. Yes, it's a "true road game'', however with most schools finishing up exams last week and students headed home for the Holiday break, you wonder what the environment will be like.
We saw it Saturday when the Virginia Tech men beat Vermont, 73-51, at Cassell Coliseum in front of a crowd that was most kids and families with the students in Blacksburg mostly gone following their exams.
How to watch Virginia Tech at Rutgers women's basketball
This game will be broadcast on FS1 and it's not a normal ACC Network or ESPN broadcast. Fox Sports has a deal with the Big Ten and they have the rights to this game being at Rutgers.
Virginia Tech enters the game off a pair of non-conference home wins over Long Island and Radford, while Rutgers already has 13 games played and sits one game below .500. To say that this is a huge game for the Scarlet Knights in terms of a resume building win if they can turn things around and get in the NCAA Tournament picture would be a major understatement.
Coach Kenny Brooks and his staff have been working early in the season to get some depth for his team after his five starters and this will be a good opportunity to test that on the road against a storied program that always plays their opponents tough.
After this game, the Hokies will have one more non-conference game on Dec. 21 at home in a rare weekday afternoon tilt against William & Mary before they take their Holiday break and begin ACC play on New Year's Eve at home against Pittsburgh.
