Coming off one of their better second-half performances of the season against Wake Forest Saturday night at Cassell Coliseum with a 50-point half in an 87-76 victory, the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team will look to build off that win Tuesday night at Louisville.

In the ACC opener back in December in Blacksburg, the Hokies beat the Cardinals, 75-68, in a game where Virginia Tech lost point guard Sean Pedulla to an ankle injury in the final seconds. This season has been tough for Louisville who sits in last place of the conference entering the final week of the regular season and there are likely some changes following the season.

If there has been one thing we have learned this season with Mike Young’s team, it is that they are a different team away from Cassell Coliseum than when they are home. They have a road win at North Carolina State back in January, but really nothing else to show in conference play on the road.

If there is a time for them to pick up a road win, it’s in their last road game of the regular season as they sit in 10th place in the standings. If they beat Louisville and Notre Dame Saturday at home, there is the possibility that they could sneak into an eight or nine-seed for the conference tournament next week in Washington. For that to happen, they would need to win out and get help.

Hunter Cattoor scored 26 points against Wake Forest and center Lynn Kidd had 21 points and nine rebounds, taking advantage of getting open in the pick-and-roll in the high post. Sean Pedulla (15 points) and MJ Collins (11 points) also reached double figures. It was also a good night in assists-to-turnovers for the Hokies who had 20 assists and just 10 turnovers.

The Hokies could really use a win here as they look to avoid playing on the opening day of the ACC Tournament next Tuesday and wait until Day 2.
