Virginia Tech 2024 football schedule surprisingly ranked fourth toughest in the ACC
By Scott Roche
Going into the 2024 college football season, there is a lot of hype surrounding the Virginia Tech football team for a number of reasons. Head coach Brent Pry got a lot of retainment from a team that finished the season winning six out of their nine games including a 41-20 Military Bowl victory over Tulane in December.
Add in some potential big impact transfers from the portal, it could be a big Year 3 of Brent Pry-era in Blacksburg in the fall. One look at the Hokies' 2024 schedule shows that it is a very doable 12-game slate with their four non-conference games and eight ACC games. Or so we thought.
Virginia Tech 2024 football schedule fourth toughest in the ACC according to College Football News
College Football News ranked college football schedules from easiest to hardest for the upcoming season and Virginia Tech's finished surprisingly tough. Now, before we dive into it, remember that this is the first season with expanded conferences in the SEC, Big 12, Big Ten, and ACC. Stanford, SMU, and California are joining the ACC starting this fall.
With that said, according to CFN, Virginia Tech's schedule ranks as the 32nd hardest and the fourth toughest of all 17 ACC schools. Only Florida State (No. 31), Virginia (No. 24), and Georgia Tech (No. 9). Vanderbilt out of the SEC and the Hokies' 2024 season-opening opponent was ranked with the 10th toughest schedule.
It's surprising to see Virginia Tech's schedule that high on the list. CFN tabbed the Hokies' hardest game on Sept. 27 at Miami and their Week 2 home game on Sept. 7 against Marshall as their easiest. Clemson will without a doubt be their second-toughest game and road games at Stanford, Syracuse, Duke, and Old Dominion are going to be easy, but all should be considered winnable.
Again, there is no doubt this is a doable schedule for Pry and his team if they stay healthy, but there is a lot of time before now and then.
