Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia doubles down on the shade he threw at Virginia Tech
By Scott Roche
The Vanderbilt football team had the biggest upset win over the weekend, yes bigger than Boston College beating Florida State Monday night, when they took down Virginia Tech in overtime, 34-27, after rallying late in the fourth quarter to force overtime. Following the game, quarterback Diego Pavia threw shade at the Hokies for calling him a "poor man's Trace McSorley."
Wednesday, the New Mexico State transfer who was 12-for-16 for 190 yards through the air and rushed for 104 yards and the game-winning touchdown in overtime, doubled down about the shade he threw at Virginia Tech and compared himself to a different signal caller.

Pavia appeared on SEC Network's Out of Pocket and according to Robbie Weinstein, he gave himself a new comparison to a former college football quarterback rather than Trace McSorley.
"It was through the grape vine, so I had to show them what I do,'' Pavia said. "I feel like I'm more of a comparison to Johnny Football. That's who I am.''
Ok, so Pavia is talking about Johnny Manziel, who happened to be the guest picker last weekend on ESPN College GameDay and who was at his former school Texas A&M for their matchup against Notre Dame. Now that is a comparison for sure, but in the big picture, it makes you scratch your head.
Pavia, who was the Conference USA Player of the Year at New Mexico State in 2023, brings a new attitude to the Commodores for the 2024 season and one that they hope will be a better one than last season with Pavia under center playing like Johnny Manziel.
