In one of the more not-so-surprising decisions, it was reported by Pete Thamel of ESPN Saturday morning that Vanderbilt was going to start Diego Pavia at quarterback against Virginia Tech in Nashville. It was a decision that should not have caught many people by surprise.

The New Mexico State transfer did have a win with the Aggies over Auburn and can hurt teams with his arm and legs. He combined for nearly 300 yards through the air and on the ground with two touchdowns passing and the game-winning score in overtime rushing in the Commodores 34-27 overtime victory.

Following the game, Pavia had some words for the Hokies after the win.

Following the game, Pavia said that some of the Hokies were chirping at him calling him a poor man's Trace McSorley and the duel-threat signal caller kept receipts over the four quarters and overtime and had a message to his chirpers after the win.

"Someone said I'm a poor man's Trace McSorley. When you stop me, then you can talk,'' Pavia said.

Unfortunately for Virginia Tech, they couldn't stop Pavia or the Vanderbilt offense much on Saturday and late in the game and overtime. In fact, after building a 17-3 halftime lead with an outstanding first half of clock management, Vandy's offense stalled for a bit in the third quarter and early in the fourth, allowing the Hokies to storm back for a 27-20 lead. However, when a play needed to be made late in the fourth quarter and overtime, Pavia made it and Virginia Tech couldn't stop him. He's not wrong.

Virginia Tech poked the bear and paid for it as Pavia had the last laugh as the Commodores were nearly a two-touchdown underdog and knocked off a team considered a dark horse in the ACC. Message sent and message received.
