Like the men, the Virginia Tech women’s basketball team has seen the transfer portal being active. Not only have they seen players come and go, but also coaches. Two days after the Hokies were eliminated in the second round of the NCAA Tournament by Baylor, head coach Kenny Brooks left to take the same position at Kentucky. It took Virginia Tech athletic director Whit Babcock seven days to find his replacement. On April 3, it was announced that Virginia Tech hired Megan Duffy from Marquette.

It certainly seems like this is going to be a good hire to continue the tradition that Brooks and the previous staff and players built. Since the end of the season, Virginia Tech has seen the women’s basketball movement in the portal and is a running tracker.

Entering the transfer portal

Georgia Amoore

With one year of eligibility remaining, it’s no surprise that Amoore left shortly after Brooks left. She entered the portal with a no-contact tag and committed to Kentucky to join Brooks for her final college season.

Clara Strack

A second departure following Brooks was Strack, who got better and better as the season went along. The Buffalo native, like Amoore, entered the portal with a no-contact tag before committing to Kentucky also.

Gabby Brooks

In the least surprising departure, Kenny Brooks’ daughter entered the portal with a no-contact tag and will likely also end up in Lexington.

Samyha Suffren

Suffren was the first player to enter the portal, but new coach Megan Duffy has said that she thinks she’ll be back with the Hokies next season.
