SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey "paying attention" to Florida State & Clemson ACC situation

Despite saying that he's focused on the current 16 SEC teams, commissioner Greg Sankey is "paying attention" to what is going with Florida State, Clemson, and the ACC when it comes to possible realignment.

Monday, the SEC kicked off their Football Media Week in Dallas with Commissioner Greg Sankey speaking ahead of LSU coach Brian Kelly, South Carolina coach Shane Beamer, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin, and Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea.

Sankey spoke several times about the "16 teams" in his conference this season as they are adding Texas and Oklahoma. Of course, recently, there has been a ton of expansion talk about Clemson and Florida State and them looking to get out of the ACC with the SEC, Big Ten, and Big 12 the options that are on the table. Sankey was asked if he is keeping tabs on what is going on with the ACC and those two schools.

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey "paying attention" to FSU/Clemson

Sankey, as it should come as no surprise, seemed to dodge a question when it came to Florida State and Clemson and the situation that the ACC currently sits in with so many more questions than answers, but he admitted that he "pays attention".

"I pay attention. We are focused on our 16. I’ve said before that I am not a recruiter. ... I’m not going to entangle (the SEC) in litigation"

I'm sure that Sankey is keeping close tabs on what is going on with the ACC, mainly Florida State and Clemson. He might not be a recruiter, but he surely is keeping an eye on what happens not only next week at the ACC Media Days and what Commissioner Jim Phillips has to say, and what happens in the coming days, weeks, and months with the conference.

It is all but assured that both FSU and Clemson are going to leave at some point, sooner rather than later, but just where remains to be seen. The Big 12 has been the rumored destination for a while, however, as we all know, things can change at the drop of a hat. While the SEC is the perfect fit for both schools, right now Sankey is focused on his 16 teams that make up his new-looking conference in 2024, but is also "paying attention" to what is going on from a distance.
