Way-too-early Virginia Tech football game-by-game predictions for 2024
By Scott Roche
It’s been a week since the 2024 Virginia Tech football schedule was released with dates for all ACC games. After coming off of a 7-6 season that saw the Hokies win six of their last nine games, expectations are high in Blacksburg for next fall with the return of a lot of key players on both sides of the ball and some transfers from the portal.
Virginia Tech’s schedule is one that 247Sports has deemed as one of the easiest and whether or not it plays out that way remains to be seen. One thing is for sure, if they can remain healthy, the Hokies have an opportunity to have a season in Year 3 of the Brent Pry-era that not many people saw coming so quickly. With that said, let’s take a way too early shot at predicting Virginia Tech’s schedule for next fall.
Week 1: Aug. 31: vs. Vanderbilt at Nashville
The Hokies begin the season with the Commodores out of the SEC at Nissan Stadium and expect a big Hokie following from Blacksburg. Vandy is going through a lot of changes this offseason and this is a good way to start the season against a Power 5 school.
Prediction: Win
Week 2: Sept. 7: vs. Marshall
This is one of two non-conference games on the schedule that the Hokies have circled. In Week 3 back in September, Virginia Tech opened the scoring early on a Kyron Drones touchdown run but struggled the rest of the game against the Thundering Hurd.
Prediction: Win
Week 3: Sept. 14: at Old Dominion
This has the potential to be a very tricky road game for Pry and his team as they have struggled on the road against the Monarchs. This will be an Ali Jennings Homecoming game.
Prediction: Win
