Pat McAfee has become a popular member of ESPN's College Gameday each Saturday in the fall. He joined the crew that includes Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso and former Alabama coach Nick Saban is scheduled to join the show this season.

As for McAfee, while he plans on returning, Andrew Marchand from The Athletic reported that he remains unsigned for the upcoming fall, raising some questions about whether or not McAfee will return. The talk show host who has his show air on ESPN under a different contract plans to return. A set that includes Herbsreit, Corso, Howard, and Saban would be a good weekly combination and McAfee would bring an outspoken and electric personality to the set for the biggest Gameday show.

"McAfee, the 37-year-old talk show host, wrestling analyst and firebrand, said late last year that he would return to the program, but a deal to make that official is still not completed. McAfee has a separate contract that allows ESPN to license his daily “The Pat McAfee Show” on its network and YouTube."

While it's very likely he returns, McAfee and his co-hosts spoke about Virginia Tech football last week on his show. They spoke about the Hokies being a College Football Playoff long shot. McAfee said this about Blacksburg,

"To be clear, fanbase is awesome too. If they were somehow to host a College Football Playoff game at Virginia Tech, it would be stupendous. "

There is no doubt that Virginia Tech hosting a College Football Playoff game would be stupendous at Lane Stadium. Now, the question must be asked that if the Hokies end up having a season that the fans hope they have, will ESPN College Gameday make an appearance in Blacksburg and if so and McAfee is back, expect him to get a warm welcome from Virginia Tech fans.
