We made it. The 2024 college football season is here. Week 0 kicks off the long-awaited season with a handful of games with Florida State and Georgia Tech getting things started in Dublin. Also in Dublin is ESPN College GameDay, which made its season debut Saturday morning.

The GameDay crew is the same with Rece Davis leading the way with Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, Kirk Herbstreit, and former Alabama coach Nick Saban being a first-year edition. Lee Corso will also be part of the broadcast, but he was not part of the crew in Ireland.

They talked about how they think the ACC is deeper this season and they like SMU to come in and make an impact in their first season with quarterback Preston Stone. Saban mentioned Clemson, Miami, and FSU as three teams at the top, followed by Louisville, Georgia Tech, and North Carolina State and he called it "a deeper conference than in the past.'' When it got to McAfee, the controversial talk show host put the conference on alert for Virginia Tech.

Pat McAfee: "Look out for Virginia Tech" in 2024

Early this summer, McAfee spoke about the Hokies on his daily show, "The Pat McAfee Show" and he doubled down on Virginia Tech for the 2024 season on GameDay Saturday.

"Look out for Virginia Tech,'' said McAfee. "Virginia Tech returns 20 starters, five offensive linemen all return, quarterback (Kyron) Drones run, option guy. They're able to move the rock and if you get into Blacksburg and a big game, that's a tough place to play.''

When Brent Pry was hired to replace Justin Fuente to rebuild the program, not many people could have envisioned Virginia Tech being in this position in Year 3 for the Pry-era, but here we are. Full speed ahead for one of the more antipacted Hokies football seasons in a while.
