Going into the 2024 upcoming college football season, expectations are high around the Virginia Tech program, and rightfully so. Head coach Brent Pry and his staff are turning things around quicker in Blacksburg than expected after picking up the pieces left by former coach Justin Fuente.

After a 1-3 start in 2023, the Hokies won six of their last nine games, including a 41-20 Military Bowl win over Tulane to head off into the offseason on a strong and positive note. Another reason for the excitement is the amount of retainment Virginia Tech has from last season’s roster, along with some key transfer portal additions. The culture is alive and well around the program again.

Looking ahead to the fall, Virginia Tech was tabbed by one national college football writer as a team that deserves more hype.

Cody Nagel tabs Virginia Tech has a team that deserves more hype

Virginia Tech was named a school by Cody Nagel of 247Sports as a team that deserves more hype going into the 2024 season.

"No power conference college football team returns more starters from last season than Virginia Tech. The Hokies are loaded with experience. And although that does not always translate to success, it can certainly help. Virginia Tech secured one of the final spots in the 247Sports post-spring top 25 rankings, a credit to that returning production and momentum established in 2023 under head coach Brent Pry, who enters his third year in Blacksburg. The Hokies won five of their last seven games to close out last season and won a bowl game for the first time in seven years. Dual-threat quarterback Kyron Drones had a breakout campaign as the starter for Virginia Tech, throwing for 2,084 yards and rushing for 818 yards with 22 total touchdowns responsible for. Do not sleep on the Hokies in 2024."

Is Virginia Tech not getting enough attention this offseason? Maybe outside of the fanbase they are, but certainly not within it. Fans know that the program is heading in the right direction and unless something big happens, they should pass their over/under win total of 7.5 at most betting sites. In fact, call me crazy, but if everything goes right and with a favorable schedule, 10 wins is not out of the question. The hype and attention are there and will only get bigger the closer to the season we get.
