Going into the 2024 season, the Virginia Tech football team has a roster that has some players on it who are going to be playing on Sundays down the line. Truth be told, some of them could already be in NFL training camps, but some decided to have the NFL wait and return to Blacksburg for the upcoming season.

Carter Bahns of 247Sports named the most exciting player on each of the preseason Top 25 teams and Virginia Tech's, which checks in at No. 24, is one that a lot of eyes are going to be on this fall.

To nobody's surprise, Bahns named Virginia Tech quarterback Kyron Drones the Hokies' most exciting player going into this season. The Baylor transfer took over full-time in Week 3 last fall at Rutgers and led Tech to a big turnaround over the final eight games, going 5-3 in the ACC to become bowl-eligible.

"College football fans ought to familiarize themselves with this name as Drones is one of the top breakout candidates for the 2024 season. The dual-threat weapon rushed for 818 yards last season and posted a 17-3 touchdown-interception ratio."

Drones threw for 2,084 yards and 17 touchdowns last season and really established himself as a dual threat by tucking the ball and rushing for 818 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. Once he gets going in the open field, he's very difficult to bring down for defenders as he collected many yards last season after first contact.

His best game running the ball last season was in the Hokies 41-20 Military Bowl win over Tulane when he rushed for 176 yards in the rain and a touchdown, while also still throwing a pair of touchdown passes to tight ends Harrison Saint Germain and Benji Gosnell.

Factor in four wide receivers returning and running back Bhayshul Tuten, and the Hokies' offense this fall could put up a lot of points if they stay healthy, but it all goes through Drones and he is without a doubt the most exciting player on Virginia Tech in 2024.
