Let's not sugarcoat things, expectations are high entering the 2024 season for the Virginia Tech football team. They are high for several reasons this fall from retainment, to transfer portal additions to a very doable schedule to an influx of promising young talent. Take your pick.

Not only are Virginia Tech fans taking notice of the hype surrounding the Hokies this season, but so is some of the national media. Maybe not all the coaches as they failed to crack the Preseason Coaches Top 25 Poll or the Preseason Associated Press Top 25, but things are certainly looking up.

National analyst sees Virginia Tech as a dangerous team week to week

There is no shortage of talent and depth on the roster and nobody should be sleeping on the Hokies this season and one analyst agrees. Dalton Wasserman of Pro Football Focus had a bold take on Virginia Tech for this upcoming season. He thinks nobody should be sleeping in them this season.

Of course, they need to play the schedule both in the non-conference and conference, but there is no question that they are a team that can play with most if not all the teams in the ACC. Their two toughest games will be at Miami in late September and at home against Clemson in early November, along with some tricky games at Syracuse and Duke and home games with Georgia Tech and Boston College.

Aside from Miami and maybe Clemson, we'll have to see where the two teams are at when the Tigers come to Blacksburg, but the Hokies could be a slight favorite or underdog, but 7-1 or 6-2 in the ACC is not out of the question. With a defense that returns a lot of talent with some portal additions and an offense that brings back nearly all of its production, Virginia Tech is a sleeper in the ACC. It can play with almost everyone every week and is a dangerous team from week to week.
